History

Our President - David Saint

David has strong links with Daventry. He was born here and educated at Daventry Grammar School, going on to the Central School of Speech and Drama. His career began with the Royal Shakespeare Company and has developed through all branches of entertainment – theatre, film, TV and radio. He has worked in musicals, thrillers and farce and has toured at home and abroad.

A career change took him into the Anglican priesthood where, along with parish duties, he continued to use his media talents in the BBC on Radio 4 and television and Radio Northampton where he presented Saint on Sunday for fifteen years.

He was a member of Muse & Music for twelve years, touring in Britain and to Canada, the USA and Australia, and regularly to the Nuremberg Festival with the ensemble. A prolific author, he still writes history features and scripts for the BBC. Caroline Chisholm is a piece for theatre about the Northampton-born social reformer who became a heroine in Australia; his most recent musical achievements are an oratorio A Century of Children, an opera Voices on the life of Joan of Arc, and an Easter oratorio.

In 1997 he was elected Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and in 2008 an Ambassador for Northamptonshire. Over the years he has valued the chance to contribute to many aspects of Northamptonshire but the one he values, perhaps, more than any is as President of Daventry Choral Society, a role he fulfils proudly having inherited it from one of his heroes, Stanley Unwin.
