28 to 31 October 2010
We have been on tour every other year starting in 2000 performing in the cathedrals of Lisieux, Gent, Brussels, Lille and Rouen and churches in St Aubin, Bruges, Leuven, Arras and Yvetot. The experience of rising to the challenge of singing in new and sometimes demanding venues is invaluable and the benefits of getting to know fellow members in a social setting are incalculable. Comments from some who went on our last tour to Rouen reflect this:
A choir member said: "Thank you for another really super tour. It was so enjoyable." The spouse of a choir member said: "I had an excellent time and really enjoyed the experience. The trip was an excellent balance of culture and fun ... I thought [the choir and organ] performed particularly well." Someone not involved in the choir said: "I really enjoyed the trip [particularly] the concerts ... The best part of the weekend ... was the way everyone made me feel so welcome. I really felt a part of the group and ... wish I had a voice worth sharing."
In planning this year's tour, we looked at various possibilities of methods of travel and destinations further afield, but have decided to follow our established practice of travelling from Daventry by coach to our destination thereby having a coach available for our needs while on tour. After organising our own tours, we have invited One Stage Specialist Concert Tours to help us set up our next. This will be our first tour to the Netherlands and we will be based in s'Hertogenbosch. We shall perform two concerts: in the church of St Nicholas and St Antonius, Monnickendam in the evening of Fri 29 October at 8.00 pm and in the cathdral of St Jan, s'Hertogenbosch, in the afternoon of Saturday 30 October at 3.00 pm.
