Young Persons Choral Awards
To celebrate our twentieth year, Daventry Choral Society has set up a Young Persons’ Choral Award scheme. The aim of the choral awards is to encourage young people to join the choir who would not otherwise have done so, in the hope that they will become regular singers and continue the choral tradition from which members of the Choral Society have derived such pleasure and satisfaction.
We are offeringone award worth £240 each, for one year only from September 2011, to be paid at the rate of £80 per term. The payment of each term’s allowance is conditional on the award holder meeting our usual requirements for attendance at rehearsals and concerts. We want to attract students in full-time education or in their gap-year, or any young person, who are between the ages of 16-25 years and who are interested in singing in a large choir.
We are an enthusiastic and friendly SATB choir, ranging from novice to experienced, which shares its interest and musical talent with the local community by way of dynamic and exciting performances in the Daventry area in at least three concerts a year. Rehearsals take place at the Methodist Church , Daventry each Tuesday in term time, from 7.30 – 9.30pm with a short break for refreshments. To help improve our singing technique we hold two Saturday training workshops each year, led by professional musicians, which have proved to be invaluable and great fun.
Highlights in recent years have included Haydn’s Creation at Everdon with the City of London Sinfonia , and the Verdi Requiem and the Beethoven Symphony No 9 ‘Choral’ concerts at the Derngate Theatre with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. At the end of June we joined the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the Royal Choral Society for a ‘Grand Opera Gala’ at the Royal Albert Hall.
